Shamila Kara & Jonathan Kamupando in "Pie Jesus" from the film "Give us Peace"

'Give Us Peace' ::a short film, filmed in 2002, based on the experiences of a dancer, Jonathan Kamupando, who leaves his young daughter to go to perform in the 'Pie Jesu' section of Faure's 'Requiem' choreographed by Viv Hamblin DANCE PEOPLE. On the way he encounters 'pre-election' troubles in Harare.

Vivienne Hamblin writes (Sept 2003)::
"Although Zimbabwe is in upheaval, with famine, political unrest and an AIDS epidemic, there is no news footage coming out the country and the only independent daily newspaper, The DAILY NEWS, was closed by Mugabe's government last week with all the editorial staff about to be charged under a new media restriction law, MIC. (see www.zwnews.com ) This restriction on the media has effectively washed the current crisis that faces the people in the country from the global public eye. These films tell stories that show that despite a climate of repression the people of Zimbabwe have continually strived to work for peace. The Electric Palace provides a unique chance to have these stories heard".

The film is availabe from www.zimmedia.com
