Viv Hamblin returned to Zimbabwe in 1989, after choreographing & teaching in Cape Town, New York, Zurich & London, to expand and develop a Black Dance programme for The National Ballet. Viv holds a Masters Degree in Fine Art (Dance) from NYU and was the initiator and first Director of the Dance Foundation Course (DFC). She was artistic director of DANCE PEOPLE from 1989 until 2002 Currently living in UK |

Chris Hamblin studied Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art University College London obtaining an HDFA. Specialising in Experimental Mixed Media he has worked with Event Artist John Latham's Artist Placement Group (APG). He travelled throughout Europe as an exponent of Celtic music. Working with Music & Visual Art made a base for arrangements and compositions for Contemporary Dance. In Zimbabwe he became well known as a teacher of Violin and T'ai Chi, leader of the Elastic Band and Conductor of the Twin Arts String Orctestra. Currently living in UK |

DANCE
PEOPLE 1989 - the history...... The first DANCE PEOPLE performance was in Dec 1989, after the 10-week pilot Dance Foundation Course project. Choreography from this by Viv Hamblin was developed for the POWER OF DANCE programme presented in HICC by the National Arts Council to celebrate Zimbabwe's 10th Anniversary of Independence (1990). Other notable Dance People productions have been FIGURES, FORMS & FUEL (1993) DANCE PEOPLE IN CONCERT WITH THE ELASTIC BAND guest artist Sandra Ashwin (1994), the much-acclaimed WOMEN IN DANCE (1997). There have been two HIFA productions in collaboration with Elastic Band in 7 Arts, the first in HIFA (1999) won the Munn Publishing Award for the best Local production in HIFA 99 and excerpts of the second, "Interesting Times!" were presented at the best of HIFA 2000 final concert and Chimanimani Festival 2000. In July 2001 they presented "RETURN FLIGHT - above this dead-weight night." at REPS Adrian Stanley Studio a show which featured Koshiwayi Sabuneti & Jimi Makurumbandi both dancers returning from study and performance abroad. In April 2002 Dance People presented "Moving Silence" . Anna Morris a member of DANCE PEOPLE is now studying for a BA at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, SA. |
